International Tracing Service records are now available through Yad Vashem and the US Holocaust Memorial Museum. The ITS archive contains approximately 50 million digital images of documentation on 17.5 million victims of Nazism—people arrested, deported, killed, put to forced labor and slave labor, or displaced from their homes and unable to return at the end of the war. Due to mounting public pressure to allow easier access to the vital documentation housed at Bad Arolsen, the International Commission of the ITS recently signed a new agreement whereby scanned copies of the entire collection will be transferred to its 11 member states. Yad Vashem and the US Holocaust Memorial Museum have webpages where survivors and their families tracing friends or family can submit requests that the records be searched.
